This is a "white paper" submission two years ago of a concept based on the Miastrada wheel system. The proposed vehicle was for the purpose of protecting our personnel against roadside bombs. It uses the patented Miastrada stabilization method to enable an elevated, V shaped hull to prevent build up of force that occurs when a blast encounters surfaces perpendicular to the rapid flow of gases from that blast. DARPA indicated they had no interest in the concept. However, the Buffalo MRAP vehicle appeared in IRAQ six months ago, with V shaping used in its configuration, advertised as such. However, this Buffalo vehicle weighs 40 tons and does not fully embody the concept represented in the white paper. Were it to do so, the weight needed to get equivalent protection could be much less.
The white paper concept also included measures to deal with explosions of roadside bombs that were to the side, as well as those coming from directly under the vehicle.
The white paper was presented as a concept paper without extensive detail.
Miastrada is proposing to enter into licensing agreements with defense contractors are offered, where the Miastrada stabilizing-steering system would be the basis of a new generation of light weight MRAP vehicles.
